Unexpected at best, my on-going project 'Rebel Riders' has been awarded third prize in Story Portrait category of Istanbul Photo Awards 2018. The series was originally started when I was participating in Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass, a program initiated by Obscura Photo Festival in 2016 and supervised by Jorg Bruggemann and Tobias Kruse from the renowned Ostkreuz Photo Agency. Never been happier!

First post for 2018: publication from an assignment for 11 FREUNDE following Persija's ultras Curva Nord's bus journey from Jakarta to Solo during the Indonesian Derby: Persija vs Persib Bandung. While the match didn't live up to expectation, the trip did, especially after the bus I boarded were attacked on the highway by Persib's fans :D

Last August, I got a chance to produce a short documentary for Google's Local Guide Rolling On, a series which focuses on how people with disabilities navigate the city they are living in. The short film features Sri Lestari, a disability rights activist living in Solodiran, Klaten, Central Java. In the production, I worked with Giri Prasetyo, a really good friend of mine who happened to be a great cinematographer and director. Apart from being the producer, I also capture the scene as the second cameraman. Sound was amazingly handled by Mirwan Arfah, a native of Yogyakarta.

The production days were pretty straightforward with one shooting day reserved to capture Sri's daily activities, and another day for B-roll.

Commissioned by Mabuhay, the inflight magazine of Philippine Airlines, I made portrait of Aaron Seeto, the director of Museum MACAN (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara).
Museum MACAN is the first institution of its kind in Indonesia which provides significant and growing collection of modern and contemporary art from Indonesia and around the world toward the public. The Museum has an active program of exhibitions and events in a 4,000 square meter facility including onsite education and conservation spaces.
I made portrait of Christoph Schulz for Neon at the beginning of last October. The image was published on November issue of the magazine.
Christoph, who founded Care Elite, is a promoter of greener life and plastic-free products. When I met him for the portrait session at the beach in Lombok, he was just finished initiating a beach cleaning excursion involving local population and tourists alike.

After three years in the making (since 2014) my collaborative documentary project with Fatris MF, The Banda Journal, is finally done. During the course of the project, some of the photographs has been published and exhibited in several places. But we're yet to exhibit the finished project. So it's a really nice coincidence that since early this October a month-long festival called Pesta Rakyat Banda 2017 is currently being held in Banda Islands. Without too much thinking, we decided to bring back the project into its birthplace. Since there's no real gallery or whatsoever on the islands, we pasted the images on various walls around the town of Banda Naira. All in all, we're amazed by the feedbacks from the islanders.

The exhibition will still be up until the end of the festival (11 November). But honestly, the images will still be there until the rain washed them away. And then....our next job will be publishing the book.

Last spring, I finally got my chance visiting Azerbaijan during a travel assignment for DestinAsian Indonesia. Although the work revolved around the capital of Baku, I managed to venture out a bit to Xinaliq, one of the highest village in the Caucasus.
